RTE announced today that Dublin midfielder Eamon Fennell's transfer from O'Tooles to St. Vincents has finally been approved by the Dublin County Board. This dispute has been quietly simmering since 2007. It has major implications for the future of transers.
Before I talk about the implications, I want to give Fennell credit for having the guts and temerity to see this through. He didn't give up. When he refused to play for the club that was holding him hostage, he was ineligible to play for the county team. The man missed a year of football for his principles. Still he didn't give up. I respect him.
