GAA Heroes Died Poor and Alone Irish Independent 22 Aug 2010
The Independent has set the bar high here with an article reporting how Sam Maguire and Liam McCarthy died lonely and broke. In typical Irish journalistic fashion the real kick in the gut is withheld until the last sentence. Only here do we learn that Sam Maguire, "...died of a broken heart and penniless." Are you kidding me?
